Glasgow DGMs main office telephone

Glasgow:

10.31 DGM's main office telephone line is not working. It arrives at the outside of World Central, but nothing hapens inside. BT engineers have called twice. Hopefully, the third engineer and/or visit will figure this out.

Now visiting the Little Horse, I travelled via the annexe of our about-to-be-becoming home in West Dorset. Currently, it closely resembles a building site. All the prior "modernising" work is regrettable.

Examples:

1. Lay carpets but don't deal with the damp;
2. Install central heating but don't provide access to fill the oil tank;
3. Site the oil tank in the only place in the small garden where it's possible to sit;
4. Fix heating pipes visibly on the walls rather than casing or hiding under floors;
5. Put a Scandinavian-style wood-burning stove in an English cottage fireplace;
6. Use louvred doors where panelled doors are appropriate;
7. Decorate everywhere in neutral dismal.

Our new home is only 18 miles from the churchyard where Mr. Bennett & Elizabeth rest.

And now for something different...

Yesterday morning, brewing the day's first pot of Earl Grey, a limerick took shape in the (admittedly wilting) psyche of your Diarist:

An end of school year in Devizes
It's headmaster who's fond of surprises
Said, "I'll give them a treat, An absolute feat!"
And out of his butt blew the prizes.

Web visitors from outside England may need to know, firstly, that Devizes is a Wiltshire town about 30 miles from World Central and, secondly, is a whizzer of a placename for someone interested in constructing limericks. Denizens of a limerick are well-served should they have some relationship with Devizes:

A progressive rock band in Devizes...
An earnest young man of Devizes...
A solicitor's clerk from Devizes...
A tourist who passed through Devizes...
An astronaut fell on Devizes...
A punter who bet on Devizes...
A philospher dreamed of Devizes...
A French town that's twinned with Devizes...

Perhaps:

Three cyclists of varying sizes
While perusing a map of Devizes
Were asked: .....

To any Guestbook visitor who completes this dodgy beginning, no prizes.
